Many blue tongue lizards or bobtails get run over on the road. They probably are warming up on the warm bitumen and meet their death there. The bobtail is harmless. People sometimes pick them up but there is a special way of picking them up. You should pick up the bobtail in the neck just behind their heads. Many people are scared because they hiss with their mouth open showing their blue tongue. It makes them look scary so their enemy go away.
