Lapis Lazuli
| Lapis
Lazuli is a beautiful, deep blue stone which can be cut and polished
to make ornaments.
It can be violet or greenish-blue and may contain tiny, shining specks of pyrites. Lapis Lazuli is really too soft for most jewellery. In powdered form, it was once used for the pigment ultramarine. Chemically Lapis Lazuli is a silicate of aluminium and it is mined in California, Chile, Russia and Afghanistan. |
