Ghana has a 500 kilometre (300 mile) long coast on the Gulf of Guinea between Togo and the Cote d'Ivoire
(Ivory Coast). Burkina Faso borders on the north. English is the official
language.
The country's area occupies
238,500 square kilometres (92,100 square miles). The Volta Basin lies in the
north-central part of the country while the Gambaga escarpment is to the north.
The Kwahu Plateau follows the basin's south rim and the Akwapim-Togo Mountains
border the Volta Basin on the east. Mount Afadjato reaches 885 metres (2,905 feet) and is the highest point in Ghana. The Volta River forms the Accra
plains in the southeast.
