Lesotho is completely surrounded by South Africa. The Maloti and Drakensberg mountain ranges rise over 3,350 metres (11,000 feet). The country's total area is 30,344 square kilometres (11,716 square miles). Most Lesotho's people are of the Sotho, or Basuto, ethnic group and speak Sotho. English is their second official language.
