Libya is a petroleum-rich country and lies in northern Africa along the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Libya's official name is the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. It ranks fourth in size among the countries of Africa and covers about 1,757,000 square kilometres (678,400 square miles). It is bordered by Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Egypt.
