Mauritania is located in
north-western Africa and covers an area of approximately 1,030,800 square
kilometres (398,000 square miles). It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Western Sahara, Algeria,
Mali, and Senegal.
A variety of wildlife like
the antelope, lion, elephant, gazelle, ostrich, panther, and lynx are mostly
found in the south. Floodplains of the Senegal River and its tributaries support
Mauritania's farming population.
