Uganda is bordered by Kenya,
Sudan, Zaire, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Lake Victoria. The country covers an area of
241,050 square kilometers (93,070 square miles). Lake Victoria and Lake Kioga
overflow into the Nile River. Mount Ruwenzori and Mount Elgon are magnificent
mountain ranges where unusual forms of giant plant life can be found. Mount
Margherita and Mount Albert are among the highest peaks. You can also explore
Lake Edward, Lake George, and Lake Mobuto Sese Seko (also known as Lake Albert).
Wildlife was once abundant,
but forest clearing eliminated many habitats and animals have been driven off by
human hunters. National wildlife parks have been established, the largest being
Kabalega (formerly Murchison Falls), where herds of elephants live. This area is
on either side of the Victoria Nile River.
