The land of the great
Irrawaddy, or Ayeyarwady, river is the Union of Myanmar, formerly known as
Burma. Beautiful mountainous Myanmar is bordered by China, Laos, Thailand,
the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, and India. Burmese is
their official language.
Some splendid places
to visit are the mountain ranges of Chin Hills, Kumon Range, and the Shan
Plateau. The highest peak is called Hkakabo Razi and worth viewing. If you
like city life instead of the mountains you may like to visit Rangoon (Yangon),
Mandalay, Moulmein (Mawlamyine), Pegu (Bago), Bassein (Pathein).
