The Queen's Residence,
Fredensborg Palace, Hillerod, is only one of the many places to visit in
Denmark. Romantic Denmark proper, is made up of a long peninsula called Jylland,
or Jutland, two large islands, Fyn, or Funen, and Sjalland, or Zealand, and some
483 smaller islands which dot the entrance to the great Baltic Sea.
History such as the Viking
period, the reign of Valdemar I and Valdemar II, the reign of Valdemar IV and
his daughter, Margrethe I make searching their historical records worthwhile.
More recent history WWII saw King Christian X ask his people not to resist the
German invasion, although the country had declared neutrality like several other
European countries, it became occupied for several years. Now it enjoys its
freedom once again and definitely a beautiful place to visit.
Also home of Hans Christian
Andersen (1805-1875) and his famous writings such as, 'The Steadfast Tin
Soldier', 'The Snow Queen', 'The Swineherd', 'The Nightingale', 'The Ugly
Duckling', 'Little Ida's Flowers', 'The Tinderbox', 'Little Claus and Big
Claus', and 'The Princess and the Pea'.
