American Samoa is much
smaller than Western Samoa and has a total area of only 199
square kilometres (77 square miles). There are the eastern islands of Tutuila, Aunuu, and Rose
islands; Swains Island, which is also a coral atoll located about 450 kilometres
(280 miles) north of Tutuila and not part of the archipelago; and then there are
the three islands of the Manua group: Tau, Olosega, and Ofu. The capital is Pago
Pago, which is located on Tutuila, the largest of the enchanting islands.
