a - A  'Angie antelope'

The second letter sound to teach is the  the letter a sound as in fan, man, can etc. To show the sound of the second letter 'a'  place a semi-circle over it. The small semi-circle symbol teaches your student that this letter sound is pronounced  the letter a as in antelope.

Step 1:

  1. Review the previous letter learned.

  2. Pronounce words beginning with that sound.

  3. Show the coloured letter card.

Step 2:

  1. If you are a member of our ABC course copy, print: letter a in colour

Step 3:  

  1. Show the letter the letter a to your student and pronounce the sound several times. 

  2. Ask the student to repeat the letter sound several times.

  3. Pronounce words that begin with the the letter a sound (Angie antelope ....).

Step 4:

If you are a member of our ABC course copy, print and complete the following worksheets in order:

  1. letter a worksheet

  2. the letter a

  3. the letter A

  4. 'alternative letter'
